Eleonora Teplinsky, MD, FASCO, Program Director - Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program

Welcome to the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program at Valley Health System – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Paramus, New Jersey.

Our mission is to train the next generation of hematologists and medical oncologists committed to clinical excellence, education, and intellectual curiosity. Through a collaborative, innovative, and humanistic approach, we strive to deliver exceptional care to our patients while fostering a learning environment where fellows become compassionate, thoughtful, and evidence-based clinicians who contribute meaningfully to advancing the science and practice of hematology and oncology.

The Valley Hospital has earned multiple national recognitions, including being named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades. Our new Paramus campus, which opened in April 2024, is a state-of-the-art medical center located adjacent to the Robert and Audrey Luckow Pavilion, home to Valley–Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care, where fellows will spend most of their training. Through our strong academic affiliation with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, fellows benefit from the resources and academic rigor of a leading national institution while training in a dynamic, community-based setting. We are privileged to care for a diverse patient population across Bergen County and northern New Jersey, preparing our fellows to deliver equitable, patient-centered care in any future practice setting. This is made possible by our dedicated faculty, who are committed to mentorship, education, and the professional growth of our fellows.

Our fellowship curriculum is designed to provide broad clinical exposure with a personalized focus. During the first two years, fellows rotate across all major disease sites, including breast and gynecologic; lung and genitourinary; gastrointestinal and head and neck; and hematologic malignancies, before pursuing individualized areas of focus in the third year. While fellows gain important experience on the inpatient consult service each year, the program is primarily outpatient-focused. Fellows will partake in a longitudinal, mentored continuity clinic throughout all three years of the program. Fellows have protected research time throughout all three years, including six months of protected research time in the third year of training. Survivorship care is a core component of the curriculum and is intentionally integrated throughout all three years of training, reflecting our commitment to comprehensive, longitudinal cancer care. The curriculum also includes customizable electives and rotations in genetics, pain management, palliative care, and menopause care, among others. In addition, fellows complete a four-week bone marrow transplant rotation at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City during their second year.

Why choose Valley? Our program will provide a fellowship experience grounded in strong clinical training, scholarship, and a culture of support and collaboration. As a community-based program with a highly subspecialized faculty and strong academic affiliation, we offer a unique hybrid model. Fellows will be encouraged to engage in teaching, leadership, and community initiatives as integral parts of their training. We invite you to consider Valley Health System and look forward to sharing our program with you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky
