Valley conducts Community Health Needs Assessments to measure the health status, behaviors and needs of residents in the communities we serve. The information gathered is used to help Valley direct resources to areas that need improvement, and guide efforts to enrich community health and wellness.

Community Benefit refers to the commitment of not-for-profit hospitals to serve the communities they are part of. At Valley, we leverage our advanced technology, educational outreach, and collaboration with community organizations.
Community Benefit Report - Financial Assistance
$11,212,057 Financial assistance offers free or reduced-cost medical care to patients unable to pay their medical bills. Financial counselors help Valley patients apply for public programs like New Jersey Family Care and prescription discount programs.

$9,128,301 Unreimbursed Medicaid. This is the difference between Medicaid payments reimbursed to hospitals and the cost to provide services to Medicaid-enrolled patients.

$3,232,889 Research. Valley invests in research as part of our broader commitment to improving public health and serving our communities. Valley conducts research in oncology, gastroenterology, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, neurology, and more.

$464,797 Cash & In-Kind Contributions. Valley supports many 501c3 organizations by providing cash and in-kind contributions towards initiatives that support needs identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment.

$3,005,217 Subsidized Services. In 2023, the Earl A. Wheaton, Jr., MD, Family Care Center saw 5,271 patient visits. The center's dedicated team provides outpatient care, accepting Medicaid, NJ Hospital Care Payment Assistance, Medicare, and Charity Care.

$3,527,530 Community Health Improvement. 181,877 people attended 699 free programs, both in-person and online, reflecting Valley’s commitment to accessible learning. 39 community groups engaged 1,441 people through the Community Speaker’s Bureau.
