Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an illness caused by the SARS-Coronavirus-2, a novel (new) coronavirus that had not previously been identified.
The virus spreads from person to person, primarily through respiratory droplets that enter the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs.
Since the first coronavirus cases appeared in New Jersey in early 2020, Valley Health System has provided safe, compassionate care in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in our community.

Valley's Coronavirus Response
Valley responded swiftly in the face of the initial coronavirus outbreak in early 2020, as our healthcare teams worked tirelessly to treat COVID-19 patients and, with our community, take steps to stop the spread of the disease.
We are beyond grateful for the generous donations of personal protective equipment, masks, shoes and other supplies for our healthcare workers – as well as the numerous messages of thanks and support from our community during the crisis.
Valley continues to respond to coronavirus in our community by offering high-level testing and treatment services, in accordance with the most up-to-date guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For the safety of all of our patients, guests and staff:
- COVID-19 patients at The Valley Hospital are cared for in isolated treatment areas and units.
- Patients are screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival at The Valley Hospital or any of our outpatient practices or facilities.
- Staff at our hospital, medical practices, outpatient facilities and home care service follow stringent cleaning and disinfecting practices.
