Summer Volunteer Update
Applications for Summer 2027 volunteer and shadowing opportunities must meet the following deadlines:
- Application deadline – January 30, 2027: All applications for summer volunteer placements and student shadowing opportunities must be submitted by this date to be considered.
- Clearance Deadline – March 31, 2027: Applicants must complete all required medical and onboarding clearance requirements by this date. Applicants who have not obtained clearance will not be approved to begin their experience. Delays in completing these requirements may impact the anticipated start date and could result in the loss of a summer placement opportunity.
- Shadowing Supplemental Documentation: Students applying for shadowing opportunities must email their resume and unofficial transcript to [email protected] by March 31, 2027.
- Late Applications & Summer Placement: Applications received after January 30 will be placed on a waitlist. While summer placement cannot be guaranteed, we will make every effort to accommodate applicants based on availability.
High School volunteers are a vital part of our volunteer team and some of our most enthusiastic members. They serve in a variety of patient care and administrative areas, perform clerical tasks, fulfill essential department project requests, transport patients and assist at various community events.
Volunteer Requirements
In addition to meeting the general requirements of all volunteers at Valley, high school volunteers must:
- Be at least 14 years of age and in high school
Note: All Valley Health System volunteers must have COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.
High School Volunteer Assignments
Assignments are based on individual interests, skills, and the needs of Valley Health System. Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend positions are available.
Please be advised that we do not offer shadowing opportunities to high school-age volunteers. You must be a rising third- or fourth-year college student focused on a medical career to be eligible to shadow.
Career Frontiers High School Internship Program for Senior Students
The application period for the 2025-2026 program is now closed.
The Career Frontiers High School Internship is Valley Volunteer Resources' service-based learning experience. This program serves high school seniors pursuing their “Work-based learning” internship for career readiness from any high school that supports this program.
Students complete this internship during the school day or outside of school hours and work alongside the mentor/department in which they are assigned. Students are matched with an experience based on interest and availability. The program starts in the fall and continues throughout the spring. Rising high school seniors on track for graduation and interested in healthcare careers are encouraged to apply!
