One of the most common diagnostic imaging modalities, X-rays offer an effective way to look inside the body. Learn more about how your provider may use this method to diagnose and guide your treatment.

Extremity X-rays

Extremity X-rays are used to examine arms and legs – including the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, foot, ankle, knee, and hip. These images help detect fractures, injuries, and other conditions.

Chest X-rays

Chest X-rays are used to evaluate the lungs, heart, and ribs. These images can help identify infections, injuries, and other concerns.

Upper GI Series

This test uses X-rays to examine the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. It can help detect blockages, ulcers, abnormal growths, or problems with how the digestive system is working.

Related procedures performed at Valley include GI with Air Contrast Series, GI/Small Bowel with Air Contrast Series, and GI/Small Bowel Series.

Barium Enema (Colon X-ray)

This exam helps doctors look closely at the colon. A special contrast material (barium), sometimes combined with air, is used to improve visibility. It can help detect issues such as ulcers, narrowed areas (strictures), polyps, small pouches in the wall (diverticula), cancer, or other abnormalities.
