The Valley Hospital through the 2010s

This year, The Valley Hospital will celebrate 75 years since its opening day, on August 8, 1951. To memorialize Valley’s history over the past seven decades, we are reflecting on the organization’s major milestones. 

In this blog, we’ll highlight Valley’s continued growth and milestones in the 2010s.

Valley in the 2010s

In 2013, Valley announced the establishment of the Michael R. Luckow Heart Center, which brought together medical practices, screenings, and imaging services that offered the latest in prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of heart disease.

In 2014, Valley announced an affiliation with the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to collaborate on clinical programs, research, and educational initiatives. In 2016, this was enhanced by announcing an affiliation for cancer care, establishing Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care.

Also in 2016, The Okonite Company donated $5 million to support research initiatives dedicated to discovering novel medical and surgical approaches to diagnosing and treating diseases in cardiology, oncology, and neurosciences. This gift also supported the newly opened Okonite Research Center.

At a press conference in 2018, The Valley Hospital announced it would be moving to Paramus, New Jersey.

Donning hard hats and carrying shovels, Valley Health System leadership, trustees, philanthropic supporters, community members, and federal, state, and local elected officials come together on November 1, 2019, to break ground on The Valley Hospital’s new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Paramus.

Back in the Two Thousand and Tens 

Presidents: Barack Obama (2009-2017) and Donald Trump (2017-2021)

Historical Events: In the 2010s, the iPad was released (2010), Prince William and Kate Middleton were married (2011), the song and dance “Gangnam Style” went viral (2012), Nelson Mandela died (2013), the Boston Marathon bombings happened (2013), Malaysia Airlines MH370 went missing (2014), Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize (2014), same-sex marriage was legalized (2015), Brexit happened, where the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union (2016), Columbia ended the 50 Years War (2016), the Me Too Movement became a global activist movement (2017), Prince Harry and Megan Markle were married (2018), and astronomers captured the first photo of a black hole (2019).
