The Kireker Center for Child Development offers feeding evaluations and treatment for children with varying diagnoses. Our feeding therapy team specializes in treating children who are:
- Picky eaters (food refusal, avoidance, tantrums)
- Experiencing poor weight gain
- Having trouble swallowing (gagging, vomiting with tasting or swallowing)
- Having trouble transitioning from liquids to purees, or from purees to chewables
Our team also assists parents of infants who were cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in transitioning their babies from tube feedings (nasogastric tube, gastric tube) to bottle feedings. In addition, we offer support for babies who have been discharged from the NICU and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in maintaining their feeding skills within the home environment.
In addition to offering comprehensive evaluations for children with feeding or swallowing issues, the feeding therapy team provides advanced treatment options, including innovative VitalStim therapy to treat children with dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) who are at risk for aspiration.
