Raising a child with allergies can feel overwhelming for the entire family – but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Valley Health System, in collaboration with the Mount Sinai Health System, offers specialized pediatric allergy and immunology care designed to support children as they grow and thrive.
The Valley Approach to Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Care
Valley’s pediatric allergy and immunology program takes a family-centered approach that recognizes each child’s unique needs and the important role caregivers play. Because allergies can change over time, our pediatric allergists tailor care to each stage of childhood, providing individualized treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Types of Allergies/Conditions Treated
- Food allergies
- Drug allergies (e.g., penicillin)
- Environmental allergies (e.g., pets, dust, and pollen)
- Hives
- Atopic dermatitis
- Mild asthma
- Other immune disorders
Diagnosing Pediatric Allergies and Immune Disorders
At Valley, pediatric allergy testing is a careful, step-by-step process designed to keep children comfortable and parents informed. Visits begin with a thorough review of your child’s health history, giving our pediatric allergists time to listen and address your concerns.
Testing uses age-appropriate, evidence-based methods and is fully explained beforehand. Depending on your child’s needs, this may include skin prick testing, oral food challenges in a monitored setting, or blood work.
We can also check vaccine titers and provide initial evaluations for immune deficiency concerns (such as frequent illness), with referral to our partners at Mount Sinai Health System if more specialized care is needed.
Throughout the process, our team prioritizes safety, comfort, and clear communication, so families are supported at every step.
Treatment Options
Oral immunotherapy and, when appropriate, treatment with an injectable medication (Xolair) is offered to reduce the risk of a severe reaction if a child is accidentally exposed to an allergen.
Why Choose Valley for Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Care?
Together, Valley Health System and Mount Sinai offer trusted expertise in pediatric allergy and immunology care.
Valley’s pediatric allergists believe allergies are manageable – and not always lifelong. With the right evaluation and support, many children can safely expand their diets and activities. Our team avoids unnecessary allergy testing for foods children already tolerate and focuses on individualized care that supports safety and quality of life.
Allergies can affect the whole family, and our pediatric allergists emphasize education, partnership, and the right care at the right time - helping families move forward with reassurance and confidence.
