Mesothelioma is an uncommon form of lung cancer that arises from the lining of the lung (pleura).
The most common risk factors for developing mesothelioma are a known exposure to asbestos and smoking. Most patients tend to be older and of male gender.

After a physical exam, typically imaging studies, such as chest X-rays or computed tomography (CT) scans, are required and biopsies may be needed for confirmation.

Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, or a combination of these treatments. In addition, new types of treatments are often being tested in clinical trials.
