Sharp Electronics’ employee group Women Influencing Sharp’s Evolution (WISE) concluded a successful Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraising campaign in support of The Valley Hospital Breast Cancer Program with a $5,000 check presentation to representatives from the hospital’s oncology department and Foundation. Twenty-five treatment bags were also created for distribution to hospital chemotherapy patients. “We are thrilled to see Sharp Electronics employees step forward once again to affirm their philanthropic support of breast cancer care at Valley,” said David Bohan, Vice President and Chief Development Officer, The Valley Hospital Foundation. “This gift will help to offer patients a broad range of programs in health, wellness and survivorship.”

Formed in 2019 to help bring female employees together, WISE chose The Valley Hospital to be their philanthropy partner for all Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraising initiatives. “Valley is not just a name,” explained co-chair Tracy Burns. “It’s a place that most people at Sharp have a connection to. It was a natural fit.” After taking a pause in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the group returned to fundraising activities in 2021. Throughout October, WISE hosted fundraising walks, bake sales, a breast cancer webinar with Valley physician Moira K. Christoudias, M.D., and the WISE Office Olympics. In addition, donation bins were placed throughout company headquarters to collect items for treatment bags for chemotherapy patients. “It was heartwarming to see how many people at Sharp wanted to participate.” Burns continued.

“It’s incredible to see members of the community giving back,” said Bettyann Kempin, Assistant Vice President, Oncology, Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care. “Through their October fundraising initiatives, Sharp’s WISE program showed a remarkable dedication to raising awareness for breast cancer, something we at Valley truly appreciate.”
