Parkinson’s Exercise Program: empowering those with Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson's Disease awareness ribbon

Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time. Parkinson’s can cause tremors, poor balance and coordination, extreme slowness of movement, speech changes, and stiffness.

Living with Parkinson’s disease can present daily challenges, but staying active is a powerful tool that can make a meaningful difference in maintaining strength, mobility, and confidence.

The Importance of Exercise and Parkinson’s Care

When it comes to exercise and Parkinson’s, research consistently shows that movement is medicine. Regular physical activity can help:

  • Delay the progression of symptoms
  • Improve walking, balance, and coordination
  • Enhance mood and cognitive function
  • Reduce the risk of falls

The Parkinson’s Foundation notes that at least 2.5 hours per week of regular exercise is recommended. Safe and tailored exercises, including strength training, stretching, balance exercises, and aerobic exercise for Parkinson’s disease, can provide cognitive benefits and should be incorporated into Parkinson’s care plans.

Finding exercise programs for Parkinson’s disease is a great way to stay active within a supportive environment.
