May 4, 2023

Valley Health System, in partnership with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is proud to announce the establishment of a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program to educate and train the next generation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) physicians.

“Valley is proud to be partnering with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the United States, to establish medical education programs in northern New Jersey,” said Robert Brenner, MD, President of Clinical Integration and Physician Enterprise, Valley Health System.

Valley’s new OB/GYN Program was recently approved and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Valley’s Internal Medicine Program was approved and accredited in February.

“Mount Sinai is proud to support Valley Health System in bringing medical education to Bergen County, NJ. These programs will not only increase the number of providers for the community but will also further improve the high quality of care,” said I. Michael Leitman, MD, Dean for Graduate Medical Education, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Kajal Angras, DO, will serve as the Director of the OB/GYN Residency Program. Dr. Angras is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and specializes in maternal-fetal medicine. Dr. Angras obtained her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. She completed her maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of training residents who will become well-rounded clinicians, educators, and leaders in the field of OB/GYN,” said Dr. Angras. “We are very excited about our newly ACGME-accredited OB/GYN Residency Program. We have an amazing team of faculty that is building a robust, innovative educational curriculum for our future residents.”

Valley is currently planning the recruitment of its first OB/GYN residents this summer for a start date of July 2024.
