Valley Health System, in partnership with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is proud to announce the establishment of a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program to educate and train the next generation of Internal Medicine physicians.
“Valley is proud to be partnering with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the United States, to establish medical education programs in northern New Jersey,” said Robert Brenner, MD, President of Clinical Integration and Physician Enterprise, Valley Health System.
Valley’s new Internal Medicine Program was recently approved and accredited by ACGME.
“Mount Sinai is proud to support Valley Health System in bringing medical education to Bergen County, NJ. These programs will not only increase the number of providers for the community but will also further improve the high quality of care,” said I. Michael Leitman, MD, Dean for Graduate Medical Education, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
As previously announced, Reham Shaaban, DO, FHM, FACP, will serve as the Accreditation of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Program Designated Institutional Official, overseeing all graduate medical education programs, as well as the director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
“I’ve devoted my career to honing my expertise as a medical educator. It is an exciting endeavor to bring graduate medical education to Valley,” said Dr. Shaaban. “Valley’s application for our internal medicine residency program was recently approved, and we are excited to begin recruitment of our first class.”
Valley is currently planning the recruitment of its first Internal Medicine residents this summer for a start date of July 2024. Valley will also introduce additional residency programs in the future.
