Valley's Childbirth Coordinator will meet with you personally to discuss and gently guide your pregnancy decisions. We like to see new mothers-to-be when they are 20 weeks pregnant. Please call

Baby ER/A Night with a Pediatrician
A Valley pediatrician will teach you what to do in case of an emergency (first aid, sickness, allergies, and more). This one-session class does not include CPR. A CPR course is available through Valley Hospital’s Education Department. Please call 201-291-6100 for details. PLEASE NOTE: If you are more that 6 months pregnant or have back or medical problems, please consult your doctor for approval before taking the CPR class.   
$20 per person

Breastfeeding Basics
Mother's milk is considered the perfect food for a newborn. It gives the newborn a healthy start. This class explores the benefits of breastfeeding and discusses nutrition, comfortable positions, common problems, returning to work, collection and storage of breast milk, and correct use of pumping equipment. Dads/significant others are encouraged to attend. This class should be taken during the seventh to eighth month of pregnancy.   
$25 per couple

Childbirth Consultation-Refresher
The "refresher" course is designed for those who haven't given birth at valley before (had their first elsewhere) and for those who have and want to just come in for the 1-hour consult to discuss their first experience and how they would like this birth to unfold. Depending on your due date, it's best to have an appointment after 32 weeks. Please call 201-447-8233 for your appointment or email: brenhe@valleyhealth.com.   





 
Childbirth Consultations
A First Consult discussion will include: Informing the expectant parents regarding their births from self-care to labor and birth. Approach to care that includes all components of you: body, mind, spirit. Forming a partnership with physician/midwife to enter into this important event with confidence. How best to educate yourself to be prepared for your birth without fear but with confidence. Assisting patient in expressing their fears; hopes and desires about this long awaited event. Second Consult (approx. 36 weeks) will include: Determining and finalizing what path you would like to take for the birth of your child. This information is shared with our Labor & Delivery staff and your OB so that upon your arrival at the hospital, we will be aware of your wishes and assist you on this journey. Communication is key. Even if there are detours along the way, everyone participating will do their best in making your childbirth experience the best it can be. SECOND CONSULT WILL BE SCHEDULED FOLLOWING YOUR INITIAL (28 WEEK) CONSULT. To schedule your appointment, please email: brenhe@valleyhealth.com   





 
Childbirth Preparation (Lamaze) [One-Day Class]
This is a one-day childbirth preparation class. It explores a wide range of techniques for creating a safe and satisfying birth experience. We encourage classes to be taken after 32 weeks and be completed by 36 weeks. Please wear comfortable clothing, and you may bring a blanket for relaxation techniques.   
$150 per couple

Childbirth Preparation (Lamaze) [2-week series]
This class explores a wide range of techniques for creating a safe and satisfying birth experience. We encourage classes to be taken after 32 weeks and be completed by 36 weeks. This class is offered in a two-week series.   
$150 per couple

Grandparents’ Class
This course provides information about the most current childbirth practices, child development and childcare, and fosters a better understanding between parents and grandparents. Topics include newborn care, infant feeding, ways to soothe a crying baby, infant safety, childproofing a home, toys for various ages, and other concerns for new grandparents. This class should be taken at the end of pregnancy or early after the birth.   
$25 per person

Happiest Baby on the Block
Learn how Dr. Harvey Karp's world-renowned parenting approch may help prevent breastfeeding failure, postpartum depression, exhaustion, marital stress, and even shaken baby syndrome. It also helps fathers become more involved with their baby’s care and helps them feel more competent and secure. All attendees will receive a "Happiest Baby" video at this one-session class.   
$55 per couple

Marvelous Multiples
This class is designed to assist expectant parents of multiples to: practice healthy pregnant lifestyles through sound nutrition, exercise, rest and stress management techniques, learn about the physical and emotional challenges of multiple pregnancy and identify the accompanying signs and symptoms, be prepared for the variances in labor, delivery and recovery of multiples through knowledge and confidence in the birth process, gain practical skills and problem-solving information about life at home with multiples, participate in a network with other parents of multiples for mutual support, and anticipate their new family with feelings of preparedness and joy. The class includes all the basic information from Lamaze Childbirth Preparation. Classes should be completed by 24th week of pregnancy.   
$200 per couple

Newborn Care/Take Care of Yourself/Take Care of your Baby
This one-session class details all the basics of newborn care for expectant parents. Topics will include bathing, bath products, diapering, cord care, temperature taking, sleep patterns as well as your postpartum care/topics. We encourage classes to be taken after 30-32 weeks and before 37 weeks. Adoptive parents are welcome as well as grandparents.   
$50 per couple

Safe Sitter®
This program provides attendees ages 11-14, with life and safely skills for taking care of and protecting infants/children. Topics include infant/children safety, handling problem behavior, care of a choking infant/child, keeping safe in the home and contacting emergency personnel. Please bring a bagged lunch to class.   
$70 per person

Sibling Class
The birth of a baby is an exciting event for the whole family. Big brothers and big sisters will enjoy this one-session class designed specifically for them. Class activities are age specific and encourage positive feelings about the older sibling's place in the family and the new baby. Children 3 to 7 years are encouraged to attend the Sibling Class. A CPR course is available through Valley Hospital’s Education Department. Please call 201-291-6100 for details. Yoga Classes

All classes are held at : 140 E. Ridgewood Ave., Paramus, NJ

You may mix and match among the following classes. For example, if you sign up for 10 classes you can take five prenatal and five postnatal. Classes are ongoing with the exception of holidays and cancellations. Once registered feel free to attend any class listed on the schedule. If attending with your baby, please bring a blanket and or boppy pillow for baby.

Prenatal Yoga: Through yoga, a woman can prepare physically, mentally and emotionally for giving birth and becoming a mother. Moms-to-be are led through a wide range of poses adapted to the ever-changing pregnant body, preparing her for labor and motherhood, as well as helping to alleviate some of the discomforts of pregnancy. Yoga helps a woman tap into her inner wisdom which is her best guide through pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Classes are held on Tuesdays 10:30-11:30am, Tuesdays 7:30-8:30pm, Thursdays 10:30- 11:30am, and Saturdays 10:30-11:30am.

Baby & Me Yoga: This is a yoga class for mothers and their non-mobile babies, (6 weeks –1 year), which is both challenging and relaxing. It addresses postpartum conditions such as back strain, weak abdominal wall and pelvic floor, tight shoulders, sleeplessness and stress. It helps women regain strength, as well as adapt and grow in their new role as mother. It is an opportunity to nourish that profound bond with baby. Classes are held on Tuesdays 12:00-1:00pm.

Postnatal Yoga: This yoga class addresses postpartum issues, as in the Baby & Me class, but without involving baby. Non-mobile babies, (6 weeks –1 year) are welcome. Classes are held Thursdays 10:30-11:30 am and Saturdays at 9:00-10:00am.

1 class - $25, 5 classes - $100 ($20/class), 10 classes - $180 ($18/class), 15 classes - $250 ($16/class)

Please Note: There are no refunds for any Yoga classes.

If you deliver early, classes can be used postnatally, so therefore no refunds will be given. Please be aware of this when choosing the number of classes you are registering for.
