Visiting Hours & Guidelines

To help protect immunocompromised patients, visitation may be limited. Exceptions may be approved by the Patient and Family Relations Department. Balloons and flowers are not permitted, and visitors must wear a mask.

Special accommodations will be made for patients in need of end-of-life care.

Visitors must be age 18 or older. If your loved one is on isolation precautions, you may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a mask, gown, gloves, or eye protection.

Visits with patients who have COVID-19 require approval from the Patient and Family Relations Department. Approved visits are limited to two (2) visitors for up to one (1) hour each day. Visitors must wear the required PPE and will receive instructions on proper hand hygiene and how to put on and remove PPE before entering the room.

Patients may have two (2) visitors during labor and delivery: one (1) designated support person and one (1) additional visitor. These visitors may not switch roles. Only one(1) visitor is allowed in the triage and PACU areas. 

 One (1) designated support person may stay throughout the postpartum stay. Visitors under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted in isolation rooms.

Two (2) visitors per day (in addition to parents/guardians) are allowed, with a maximum of three (3) people in the room at once. All visitors must be over age 18. A parent/guardian must be present while other visitors are in the room. The unit is closed to visitors from 1 - 2 p.m. daily. Balloons, flowers, and food are not allowed.

One (1) parent/guardian may stay overnight. Visitors under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

One (1) visitor is allowed at the bedside at the discretion of the care team (two [2] for pediatric patients). All visitors must be age 18 or older. 

• Upon arrival, the patient/visitor must check in at reception for a security pass, then proceed to the Patient Access Center for registration.
• Patients are escorted to the procedure area and visitor contact information is collected for Patient and Family Relations. During the procedure, the visitor may remain in the waiting area or leave the building until the patient is ready for discharge.
• For most surgical cases, one (1) visitor is allowed at the bedside in the post-operative unit, depending on the procedure; your care team will advise.

For pain management procedures, the visitor will remain at the bedside until discharge, as these procedures are brief.

Due to the short length of these procedures and space limitations, visitors are not  allowed at the bedside during the admission process unless clinically necessary.  Exceptions include:

• One (1) visitor for patients with cognitive disabilities
• Two (2) visitors for pediatric patients

Visitors may wait in the procedural family waiting area or leave the building until the patient is ready for discharge; the endoscopy team will call when the patient is ready.

One (1) visitor is allowed at the bedside during admission until the patient is taken for their procedure (two [2] for pediatric patients).  All visitors must be age 18 or older.

• Upon arrival, the patient/visitor must check in at Reception for a security pass and then proceed to the  Patient Access Center for registration.
• The patient will be directed to the procedure area in the lower level Cheel building. The admitting RN will collect contact information for the visitor/responsible ride home.
• The visitor may wait in the first-floor surgical waiting area or lobby, or leave until discharge.
• One (1) visitor is allowed at the bedside in the post-operative unit, depending on the procedure and patient’s condition. Your care team will let you know if visitation is permitted.

Two (2) guests are allowed with patients for infusion and radiation oncology. Masks are required in areas where immunocompromised patients are receiving care.

One (1) visitor is allowed. Both parents/guardians may accompany a pediatric patient. 

Visitors may not be present during the procedure/exam and may wait in the designated waiting area. Exceptions may be made for one (1) visitor to accompany the patient under the following circumstances:

• The patient is cognitively impaired.

• The patient is pediatric. 

• The patient is physically disabled and requires a visitor to assist them. 

• Other special circumstances.
