Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care is excited to host a free, eight-part webinar lecture series about weight management for breast cancer survivors. Jessica Cording, MS, RD, registered dietitian and health coach, will host this series.
The first lecture will be held on Tuesday, October 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. The subsequent lectures will be held on the first Tuesday of the month at the same time.
“Many breast cancer survivors, and those who take medications to reduce their risk, feel unprepared for the metabolic changes that often result from those treatments,” said Cording. “Needing to adjust their habits for weight management can feel frustrating and daunting. We wanted to empower them with the information they need to build sustainable healthy habits to support long-term health.”
The topics and dates are as follows:
- October 1: Demystifying Weight Changes Related to Breast Cancer Treatment
- November 5: Introduction to Healthy Eating for Breast Cancer Survivors
- December 3: The Role of Weight Loss Medications for Breast Cancer Survivors
- January 7: Exercise for Weight Management for Breast Cancer Survivors
- February 4: Combining Nutrition and Exercise for Weight Management
- March 4: Sleep Hygiene for Breast Cancer Survivors
- April 1: Stress Management for Breast Cancer Survivors
- May 6: Making Weight Management Behavior Changes Stick
“We hope that people will come away from this lecture series with an understanding of how breast cancer treatment and medications for risk reduction impact metabolism and how adjusting their diet, exercise patterns, sleep hygiene, and stress management approach can help them reach and maintain a healthy weight in an approachable way,” said Cording. “Those using weight loss medications as part of their journey will gain insight into how to optimize their experience.”
