Valley Medical Group Expands Integrative Medicine Services with Therapeutic Massage Therapy

September 10, 2025

Valley Medical Group is pleased to announce the launch of therapeutic massage therapy, a new service available through Valley’s integrative medicine practice

Unlike traditional spa-based massage, therapeutic massage is a clinical approach to soft tissue therapy that focuses on specific health concerns such as chronic pain, muscle tension, stress-related disorders, and injury recovery. Treatments are provided by licensed massage therapists and integrated into a patient’s broader care plan through a collaborative relationship between Valley’s Integrative Medicine team and the patient’s additional healthcare clinicians.

“Our goal is to support the whole person – body and mind,” said Lori Nuzzi, DC, Director of Integrative Medicine for Valley Medical Group. “Therapeutic massage at Valley is more than relaxation; it is evidence-based bodywork designed to support healing, pain relief, and overall wellness.”

Valley’s massage therapists use a variety of specialized techniques, including:

  • Deep tissue massage – targeting deep layers of muscles and connective tissue.
  • Trigger point therapy – addressing specific points, known as “trigger points,” in the muscles.
  • Myofascial release – focusing on fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, organs, and bones.
  • Neuromuscular release and stretching – releasing tension and pain in the muscles and nervous system.
  • Sports and recovery massage – targeting the soft tissues to address the demands of physical activity.
  • Cupping therapy – using a heated cup to create local suction on the skin.
  • Gua sha – gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool.

Patients may benefit from therapeutic massage for:

  • Chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Muscle stiffness and fatigue
  • Sports and repetitive strain injuries
  • Postural imbalances and limited mobility
  • Chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, a condition that involves pain throughout the body; arthritis, joint pain or stiffness; and autoimmune disorders

Therapeutic massage also offers both physical and emotional benefits, including reducing pain and inflammation, enhancing relaxation and mood, improving posture and mobility, and supporting recovery after surgery or injury.

“When integrated into your wellness plan, therapeutic massage can play a key role in preventing illness, managing chronic conditions, and enhancing quality of life,” said Dr. Nuzzi.

Valley’s integrative medicine practice, located in Ridgewood, New Jersey, is now accepting new patients for therapeutic massage. Services will soon be available in Montvale, New Jersey.
