  1. U.S. News & World Report: The Valley Hospital has been recognized as one of the best hospitals in the region, ranking as the fifth best hospital in New Jersey and the 12th best hospital in the New York metropolitan area for 2017-2018, according to U.S. News & World Report. In addition, Valley achieved the highest possible rating – high performing – for seven adult procedures and conditions: aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.
  2. NJBIZ: Valley Health System and The Valley Hospital were ranked as number the number one health system and hospital, respectively, in New Jersey in a recent NJBIZ Reader Rankings survey. Valley Medical Group was also ranked the number one physician group in the state. Valley also ranked as number one in the following categories: Best Cardiac Care System, Best Cardiac Care Hospital and Best Research Center.
  3. Leapfrog: For the 11th time, The Valley Hospital has received an 'A' grade in patient safety for fall 2017 from Leapfrog. Valley was one of 832 hospitals to receive an A, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States.
  4. Healthgrades: 
    a) Valley has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery and received the 2018 General Surgery Excellence Award, placing Valley in the top 5 percent in the nation for General Surgery.
    b) Valley has received the 2018 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, placing Valley in the top 10 percent in the nation for Pulmonary Care.
    c) For the third consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has achieved the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 5 percent of all short-term acute care hospitals in the nation for excellent performance. Valley is the only hospital in Bergen County to receive this designation. 
  5. Women’s Choice Award: The Valley Hospital has earned the 2017 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience for a fifth consecutive year. This designation identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction, patient recommendation ratings, and what women say they want from a hospital, providing women the opportunity to identify which hospitals deliver the quality patient experience they seek for themselves and their families.
  6. The Joint Commission: Valley has earned an impressive 14 Disease-Specific Certifications from The Joint Commission. In addition to the Disease-Specific Certifications listed in their respective clinical sections below, Valley holds Disease-Specific Certifications in the areas of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Wound Care.
  7. Magnet Designation - American Nurses Credentialing Center: Valley is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Valley is among only 6 percent of hospitals nationwide to receive Magnet designation, the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.

  1. Healthgrades: 
    a) For the second consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America's 50 Best hospitals for Vascular Surgery. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 10 percent in the nation for vascular surgery.
    b) Valley has  received the Vascular Surgery Excellence Award for two years in a row.
    c) Five-Star Recipient for Coronary Bypass Surgery for 2017.
    d) Five-Star Recipient for Pacemaker Procedures for 2017. 
  2. Women’s Choice Award: The Valley Hospital has earned the 2017 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care for the fourth consecutive year. Valley, which became affiliated with Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute in 2015, qualified for this evidence-based designation by being ranked in the top 9 percent of nearly 4,800 U.S. hospitals.
  3. American Heart Association: The Valley Hospital has received the 2017 Get With The Guidelines®–Resuscitation Silver Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer in-hospital cardiac arrests.
  4. The Joint Commission: Valley holds a Disease-Specific Certification from The Joint Commission in the areas of acute myocardial infarction and heart failure.
  5. Intersocietal Accreditation Commission: 
    a) The Valley Heart and Vascular Institute’s Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Cardiac Electrophysiology in the areas of electrophysiology testing and catheter ablation and device implantation. Valley is one of only nine facilities nationwide — and the only one in New Jersey — to receive this recognition.
    b) The Valley Hospital’s Echocardiography Lab has been granted an additional three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the areas of Adult Transthoracic and Adult Stress.

  1. The Joint Commission: No hospital in the nation has more Gold Seals of Approval in cancer care than Valley. Valley holds six Disease-Specific Certifications for cancer, also known as Gold Seals of Approval, in the following areas: breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and uterine-ovarian cancer.
  2. CEO Roundtable on Cancer: Valley Health System has been re-accredited as a CEO Cancer Gold Standard employer for 2017 by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer. This distinction recognizes healthcare organizations whose work to fight cancer among its employees is exemplary in five areas: prevention, including maintaining a tobacco-free workplace, nutrition and physical activity; screening and early detection; access to clinical trials; access to quality treatment; and health education and promotion.
  3. Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons:
    a) The CoC has once again awarded a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation Gold Level to the Cancer Program at The Valley Hospital. Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer is only given to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of quality of cancer care through a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach.
    b) The COC has awarded The Valley Hospital’s cancer program with the prestigious 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award (which has since been discontinued). Valley was the only hospital in northern New Jersey and one of only two in the state to receive this recognition in 2015. Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients and demonstrate a commendation level of compliance with seven standards during their accreditation survey cycle. 
  4.  Becker’s: Becker's Hospital Review has named The Valley Hospital to its 2016 edition of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs." According to Becker's, organizations on the 2016 list are leading the way in quality patient care, cancer outcomes and research.
  5. Women’s Choice Awards: The Valley Hospital has been named a 2017 Women’s Choice Award® recipient as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care (fourth year in a row), acknowledging Valley’s dedication to providing exceptional patient care and treatment for women and their families. This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital.

    a) Valley has been awarded the 2017 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ for providing outstanding performance in gynecologic surgery (second year in a row), placing Valley's Gynecologic programs in the top 10 percent of hospitals evaluated for this procedures in 2017 by Healthgrades.
    b) Valley has been awarded the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ for providing exceptional care to mothers during labor and delivery, placing Valley's Labor and Delivery programs in the top 10 percent of hospitals evaluated for this procedures in 2017 by Healthgrades.

  3. National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers: As of 2017, Valley's Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. First earning NAPBC approval in 2011, this is the third full NAPBC accreditation for Valley’s comprehensive Breast Center, a critical component to the hospital's Blumenthal Cancer Center.
  4. American College of Radiology: Valley's Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, one of only two hospital-based breast imaging centers in Bergen County to receive the designation.
  5. The Joint Commission: Valley holds a Disease-Specific Certification from The Joint Commission in the area of perinatal care.

  1. Beacon Award: Five of Valley's critical care units have received the Beacon Award, a three-year designation. In 2017, Valley's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit received a Beacon Award; Valley is the only hospital in New Jersey to have received this recognition. In 2016, Valley’s Coronary Care, Cardiac Surgery, Intermediate Care and Intensive Care Units received the Beacon Award. This is the fourth time that Valley’s critical care units have received this prestigious three-year designation.
  2. American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC): 
    a) Valley has been recognized with the 2017 Apex Recognition Award from the AARC for demonstrating best practices in respiratory care. Valley is one of only five hospitals in the country – and the only one in New Jersey – to receive this award.
    b) In 2016, The Valley Hospital earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) for the fourteenth year in a row from the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC). Valley is one of about 700 hospitals or approximately 15 percent of hospitals nationwide that have applied for and received this award.
  3. Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®): The Valley Hospital’s weight-loss (bariatric) surgery program has received Full Accreditation as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). To earn the three-year accreditation, Valley had to meet specific standards outlined by the MBSAQIP, including providing bariatric surgical patients with a multidisciplinary program to improve patient outcomes and long-term success.
  4. Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs: Valley Health System has been awarded accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), making Valley the first and only healthcare organization in New Jersey to receive this distinction. As the “gold seal” for human subject protection, this AAHRPP accreditation places Valley Health System among the most respected research organizations in the world, and helps cultivate further public confidence in human research conducted at Valley.
  5. American Diabetes Association: Valley Health System has received the Corporate Health Champion Designation from the American Diabetes Association. This designation recognizes companies and organizations that inspire and encourage organizational well-being and is part of the Association’s Wellness Lives Here initiative.
  6. Most Wired: For the 17th consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals, according to the 19th annual HealthCare’s Most Wired™ Survey, released by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). The Most Wired distinction recognizes hospitals for successful health IT planning and implementation in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.
  7. The Outsourcing Institute: The Valley Hospital has been named a 2017 Best Outsourcing Thought Leadership Awards (BOTL) winner by The Outsourcing Institute for its work with MEDITECH in collaboratively developing and deploying electronic surveillance software to identify and prevent hospital-acquired conditions (HACs). 
  8. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA): For a second consecutive year, The Valley Hospital was recently awarded platinum-level recognition for promoting enrollment in state organ donor registries in a national Workplace Partnership for Life hospital campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
