U.S. News 2016




The Valley Hospital has been recognized as one of the best hospitals in the region, ranking as the fifth best hospital in New Jersey and the 14th best hospital in the New York metropolitan area for 2016-2017, according to U.S. News & World Report. In addition, Valley achieved the highest possible rating – high performing – in all nine common procedures and conditions that are rated by U.S. News & World Report: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. 

 

Becker's 100 Great Oncology ProgramsBecker's Hospital Review has named The Valley Hospital to its 2016 edition of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs." According to Becker's, organizations on the 2016 list are leading the way in quality patient care, cancer outcomes and research.

A Grade For Hospital Safety Score by LeapfrogFor the tenth time, The Valley Hospital has received an 'A' grade in patient safety for Spring 2017 from Leapfrog. Valley was one of 823 hospitals to receive an A, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States.

Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Vascular Surgery 2016 Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Vascular Surgery 2016For the second consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America's 50 Best hospitals for Vascular Surgery. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 10 percent in the nation for vascular surgery. Valley has also received the Vascular Surgery Excellence Award for two years in a row.

Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery 2016 Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery 2016For the fourth consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for overall orthopedic services. Valley has also been recognized with the Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award for four years in a row.

 Healthgrades Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence 2017The Valley Hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades with the Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award™. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for cranial neurosurgery.

Healthgrades Stroke Excellence 2017 Healthgrades 5-Star Pacemaker 2017The Valley Hospital has received the Healthgrades 2017 Stroke Excellence Award™ for clinical quality and excellence, placing Valley in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for stroke care. Valley's Stroke Care Program is also a 5-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke for 2017.

Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award 2017For the third consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has achieved the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 5 percent of all short-term acute care hospitals in the nation for excellent performance. Valley is the only hospital in northern New Jersey to receive this award for 2017. Healthgrades defines this region as Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.

Healthgrades General Surgery Excellence 2017The Valley Hospital is the only hospital in Bergen County to receive the Healthgrades 2017 General Surgery Excellence Award™. This designation places Valley among Healthgrades top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for general surgery.

Healthgrades 5-Star Coronary Bypass2017The Valley Hospital is a Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for Coronary Bypass Surgery for 2017.

Healthgrades 5-Star Pacemaker 2017The Valley Hospital is a Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for Pacemaker Procedures for 2017.

HG gynecologic surgery excellence 2016The Valley Hospital has been recognized with the Healthgrades 2016 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™.  This designation places  Valley is among Healthgrades top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for outstanding performance in  gynecologic surgery.          

HG joint replacement 2016For a third consecutive year, The Valley Hospital has been recognized with the Healthgrades 2016 Joint Replacement Excellence Award™. This rating indicates that Valley's clinical outcomes with joint replacement are statistically significantly better than expected.

EC AccredThe Valley Hospital’s Echocardiography Lab has been granted an additional three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the areas of Adult Transthoracic and Adult Stress. This accreditation is a seal of approval that patients can rely on as an indicator for consistent quality care and dedication to continuous improvement, according to the IAC.

EP AccredThe Valley Heart and Vascular Institute’s Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Cardiac Electrophysiology in the areas of electrophysiology testing and catheter ablation and device implantation. Valley is one of only nine facilities nationwide — and the only one in New Jersey — to receive this recognition.

2015 cancer accred resized XSThe Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has once again awarded a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation Gold Level to the Cancer Program at The Valley Hospital.  Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer is only given to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of quality of cancer care through a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach. 

coc2015The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has awarded The Valley Hospital’s cancer program with the prestigious 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award. Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients and demonstrate a commendation level of compliance with seven standards during their accreditation survey cycle. Valley was the only hospital in northern New Jersey and one of only two in the state to receive this recognition in 2015.  

10 Gold Seals of Approval from The Joint Commission

Valley has earned an impressive 14 Disease-Specific Certifications from The Joint Commission.  Valley holds these distinctions, also known as Gold Seals of Approval, in the following clinical areas: perinatal care, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, stroke, breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and uterine-ovarian cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and wound care. No hospital in the nation has more Gold Seals of Approval in cancer care than Valley.

 Joint Commission Top Performer 2014 logoIn November 2015, The Valley Hospital has been named a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America,  for exemplary clinical performance in the following areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke, and perinatal care.  This is the fourth consecutive year that Valley has been recognized as a Top Performer.

CEO Cancer

Valley Health System has been awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer.  This distinction recognizes healthcare organizations whose work to fight cancer among its employees  is exemplary in five areas: use of tobacco; nutrition; physical activity; prevention, screening and early detection; and access to quality treatment and clinical trials.

Five of Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care NursesValley's critical care units have received the Beacon Award, a three-year designation. In 2017, Valley's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit received a Beacon Award; Valley is the only hospital in New Jersey to have received this recognition. In 2016, Valley’s Coronary Care, Cardiac Surgery, Intermediate Care and Intensive Care Units received the Beacon Award. This is the fourth time that Valley’s critical care units have received this prestigious three-year designation. 

Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center

Valley is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  Valley is among only 6 percent of hospitals nationwide to receive Magnet designation, the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of RadiologyValley's Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, one of only two hospital-based breast imaging centers in Bergen County to receive the designation.

National accreditation program for breast centers.As of 2017, Valley's Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. First earning NAPBC approval in 2011, this is the third full NAPBC accreditation for Valley’s comprehensive Breast Center, a critical component to the hospital's Blumenthal Cancer Center.


QRCR 2016.The Valley Hospital has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) for the fourteenth year in a row from the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC), an organization that aims to help patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of respiratory care services available in hospitals. Valley is one of about 700 hospitals or approximately 15 percent of hospitals nationwide that have applied for and received this award.


MBSAQIP 2016.The Valley Hospital’s weight-loss (bariatric) surgery program has received Full Accreditation as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). To earn the three-year accreditation, Valley had to meet specific standards outlined by the MBSAQIP, including providing bariatric surgical patients with a multidisciplinary program to improve patient outcomes and long-term success.


AAHRPP 2016.Valley Health System has been awarded accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), making Valley the first and only healthcare organization in New Jersey to receive this distinction. As the “gold seal” for human subject protection, this AAHRPP accreditation places Valley Health System among the most respected research organizations in the world, and helps cultivate further public confidence in human research conducted at Valley.

WCABS2017The Valley Hospital has received the 2017 Women's Choice Award® as one of America's Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery for a second consecutive year, recognizing Valley’s commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and treatment to women who undergo bariatric surgery procedures.  Valley is among more than 300 hospitals that have met the highest standards set by The American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Valley, which became affiliated with Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute in 2015, qualified for this evidence-based designation by being ranked in the top 9 percent of nearly 4,800 U.S. hospitals.

The Most Wired distinction recognizes hospitals for successful health IT planning and implementation in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.

The Valley Hospital was recently awarded gold-level recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the hospital’s efforts in promoting organ donation. The hospital was recognized as part of the national Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign, sponsored by HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration.

VMG medical home award

Valley Medical Group is pleased to announce that its primary care practices have been recognized as Patient-Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The VMG practices achieved level-3 recognition, the highest level of recognition conferred by the NCQA.

Distinguished Hospital Award from J.D. Power and Associates

For ten consecutive years, The Valley Hospital has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide "An Outstanding Inpatient Experience." Valley was the first hospital in the tri-state area to receive this distinction.
