Five star rating in Gynecologic Surgery by HealthGrades

For 2014, Valley earned 5-star ratings by Healthgrades for Appendectomy, Coronary Bypass Surgery, Gall Bladder Removal, Gynecologic Surgery, Hip Fracture Treatment, Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and Valve Surgery.

For a fifth consecutive time, and for as many times as the score has been given, The Valley Hospital has received a grade of A for patient safety in a report released by The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.

The Valley Hospital has received the 2013 Women’s Choice Award for being voted one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience by women. This distinction is the only award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on criteria that consider female patient satisfaction and what women say they want from a hospital including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trusted referrals from other women.

CEO Cancer

Valley Health System has been awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer.  This distinction recognizes healthcare organizations whose work to fight cancer among its employees  is exemplary in five areas: use of tobacco; nutrition; physical activity; prevention, screening and early detection; and access to quality treatment and clinical trials.

Distinguished Hospital Award from J.D. Power and Associates

For ten consecutive years, The Valley Hospital has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide "An Outstanding Inpatient Experience." Valley was the first hospital in the tri-state area to receive this distinction.

The Valley Hospital's Emergency Department has been recognized twice for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide "An Outstanding Emergency Department Experience."

Three Star Rating from Society of Thoracic Surgeons

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has once again recognized The Valley Heart and Vascular Institute’s cardiac surgery program with a three-star rating – its highest designation of quality and clinical excellence.  Nationwide, less than 15 percent of cardiac surgery programs received a three-star rating for bypass procedures, less than 8 percent  received a three-star rating for aortic valve replacement, and only 6 percent received a three-star rating for a combination of the two procedures. Valley’s current STS designation of three-star ratings in all three categories has been achieved by only 1.7 percent of hospitals.

The Valley Hospital is among the top 15 hospitals in the country for heart surgery according to Consumer Reports hospital ratings released earlier this month.  The hospital ratings are included in the August 2014 issue of Consumer Reports. Valley is the only hospital in the New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area to make the list

10 Gold Seals of Approval from The Joint Commission

Valley has earned an impressive 12 Disease-Specific Certifications from The Joint Commission.  Valley holds these distinctions, also known as Gold Seals of Approval, in the following clinical areas: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, stroke, breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and uterine-ovarian cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. No hospital in the nation has more Gold Seals of Approval in cancer care than Valley.

No hospital in the nation has more Gold Seals of Approval in cancer care than The Valley Hospital.  Gold seals are awarded by The Joint Commission.  Valley has earned these distinctions in lung, breast, colorectal, uterine-ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.

Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses

Valley's Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care, and Coronary Care units each received the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center

Valley is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award for 2009

Valley's cancer program was awarded a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer. Accreditation is only given to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of quality of cancer care through a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach.

American College of Surgeon's Oncology Group

Valley's Oncology Clinical Trials Department was named one of the top three performing institutions in the country for thoracic clinical trials by the American College of Surgeon's Oncology Group.

most wiredFor the 14th consecutive year The Valley Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals, according to the 16th annual Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

Valley's Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, one of only two hospital-based breast imaging centers in Bergen County to receive the designation.

National accreditation program for breast centers.

Valley's Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Fit Friendly 2012

Valley Health System has been named a Gold Level Fit-Friendly organization by the American Heart Association.

gwtg2014The Valley Hospital has received a Get With the Guidelines–Resuscitation Bronze Award from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, highlighting Valley’s efforts to save the lives of patients by following specific, research-based resuscitation protocols for patients who suffer a cardiac arrest.

Blue Distinction Center+

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has recognized The Valley Hospital as one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction Center+SM  designation in the area of cardiac care, as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program.  Blue Distinction Centers are hospitals shown to deliver quality specialty care based on objective, transparent measures for patient safety and health outcomes that were developed with input from the medical community.

beckersBecker’s Hospital Review has named The Valley Hospital to its 2014 edition of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs.” According to Becker’s, organizations on the 2014 list are leading the way in quality patient care, cancer outcomes and research.
