For the fourthconsecutive time, and for as many times as the score has been given, The Valley Hospital has received a grade of A for patient safety in a report released by The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
The Valley Hospital has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, for exemplary clinical performance in the following areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.
The Valley Hospital has received the 2013 Women’s Choice Award for being voted one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience by women. This distinction is the only award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on criteria that consider female patient satisfaction and what women say they want from a hospital including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trusted referrals from other women.

For ten consecutive years, The Valley Hospital has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide "An Outstanding Inpatient Experience." Valley's Cardiac Surgery program has once again been recognized with a three-star rating - the highest designation of quality and clinical excellence - by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The 3 Stars were achieved in both isolated bypass and Aortic Valve Replacement categories. Only 12-15% of programs nationwide achieve this distinction in isolated bypass surgery, only 6% for AVR surgery, and only 2.4% received the three-star rating in both categories. Valley's Cardiac Program has now received this recognition in both 2012 and 2013.
Valley has earned an impressive 11 Disease-Specific Certifications from The Joint Commission. Valley holds these distinctions, also known as Gold Seals of Approval, in the following clinical areas: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, stroke, breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and uterine-ovarian cancer.
No hospital in the nation has more Gold Seals of Approval in cancer care than The Valley Hospital. Gold seals are awarded by The Joint Commission. Valley has earned these distinctions in lung, breast, colorectal, uterine-ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.
Valley's Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care, and Coronary Care units each received the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
Valley is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Valley's cancer program was awarded a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer. Accreditation is only given to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of quality of cancer care through a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach.
Valley's Oncology Clinical Trials Department was named one of the top three performing institutions in the country for thoracic clinical trials by the American College of Surgeon's Oncology Group.
Valley's Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, one of only two hospital-based breast imaging centers in Bergen County to receive the designation.
Valley's Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Valley Health System has been named a Gold Level Fit-Friendly organization by the American Heart Association.
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has recognized The Valley Hospital as one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction Center+SM designation in the area of cardiac care, as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program. Blue Distinction Centers are hospitals shown to deliver quality specialty care based on objective, transparent measures for patient safety and health outcomes that were developed with input from the medical community.
