The Valley Hospital will host a free diabetes prevention program, A Touch of Sugar, on Saturday, May 6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 399 S. Broad Street in Ridgewood. The community health program is co-sponsored by Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church and Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.
While about 27 million people in the U.S. are affected by diabetes, a much larger number, 86 million, are estimated to have a higher than normal blood sugar level – an indication of a precursor condition known as prediabetes. Individuals with prediabetes are not just at an increased risk of developing diabetes, but heart disease, stroke, and other serious conditions.
The good news is that with healthy lifestyle changes, such as proper diet and regular exercise, prediabetes does not have to develop into a diagnosis of diabetes.
Join Annamma George, MSN, RN-BC, DCE, NP-C, Diabetes Educator to learn about prediabetes and how to take control of your health to prevent diabetes.
