Only Hospital in New Jersey and the New York Metropolitan Area to Make the List
July 1, 2014 — The Valley Hospital is among the top 15 hospitals in the country for heart surgery according to Consumer Reports hospital ratings released earlier this month. The hospital ratings are included in the August 2014 issue of Consumer Reports.
The ratings of 400 hospitals across the U.S. are based on data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and address two common heart surgeries — coronary artery bypass and aortic valve replacement. Hospitals were rated based on patient outcomes, including survival and complication rates. Valley was the only hospital in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area to receive “above average” ratings (the highest possible) in both of those areas.
“We are very proud to be included on such a prestigious list,” said Alex Zapolanski, M.D., Director of Cardiac Surgery at Valley. “Achieving the gold standard of quality care in clinical excellence is important to our patients. This information will benefit them in the decision-making process when choosing a cardiac surgery center.”
