Moya Moya Disease

At The Valley Hospital, our cerebral angiogram technology can aid in the detection and treatment of MoyaMoya disease. Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder where blocked arteries are present at the base of the brain, the tiny vessels appear in a tangled formation to compensate for the blockage. The disease primarily affects children, but it can also occur in adults.

In children, the first sign of Moyamoya disease can often be a stroke, or a series of mini-strokes, along with muscular weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, or seizures. Adults most often experience a hemorrhagic stroke from recurring blood clots in the affected brain vessels.

Moya Moya can be diagnosed with the cerebral angiogram at the Valley Hospital. The angiogram is a first step to assess the brain vessel for treatment planning.
