Center for Liver Diseases

The Valley Hospital, in affiliation with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, has established the Center for Liver Diseases. The Center is located at 579 Franklin Turnpike in Ridgewood and operates in affiliation with physicians from New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

The Center for Liver Diseases provides comprehensive prevention, diagnostic, evaluation, treatment, management, and consultation services for patients with all types of liver diseases, including hepatitis A, B, and C, cirrhosis, primary biliary cirrhosis, sclerosing cholangitis, complications of portal hypertension, alcoholic liver disease, and cancer of the liver and bile duct. Diagnostic tests - including lab tests, CT scans, ultrasounds, MRIs, and liver biopsies - are available at the Center and at The Valley Hospital. Treatment may include medications, including pegylated interferon or novel medications currently in clinical trials for hepatitis, or various surgical procedures. If a patient requires a liver transplant, he/she will be assessed at the Center for Liver Diseases and placed on a transplant list at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Robert Brown, M.D., a Hepatologist from New York-Presbyterian Hospital sees patients on Mondays at the Center for Liver Diseases and is available to consult with Valley physicians about their patients. The addition of nurse practitioners and a business associate expands the ability to coordinate and deliver services more efficiently.

Liver diseases are the seventh most frequent cause of death in Americans, and an estimated 4 million people nationwide are chronically infected with hepatitis C, one of the most common liver diseases. With liver diseases on the rise, the Center is a unique opportunity for patients in northern New Jersey to have access to the expertise in liver diseases that is provided at New York-Presbyterian Hospital without having to travel to New York City.

The expansion of services at the Center for Liver Diseases means a seamless delivery of care for patients. Everything that a patient needs to be assessed and treated by top liver specialists is at Valley.
