Valley Pain Management Center

Physicians at the Valley Pain Management Center believe that one person in pain is too many, especially if that person is you.

The Valley Pain Management Center uses a multidisciplinary approach that treats the whole individual and includes the consultation of other medical disciplines as necessary.  Patients are provided with a comprehensive evaluation and advanced therapies that combine the unique medical expertise of each of the center's physicians with safe, integrative therapies.

Conditions treated include acute and chronic pain as a result of

  • Injury or illness
  • Back, neck, or knee problems
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Sciatica
  • Osteoporosis
  • Neuropathy
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Shingles
  • Other muscular conditions
As part of the multidisciplinary approach, our physicians consult with the following disciplines when needed: pain management, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedic surgery, radiology, psychiatry, rehabilitation services, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.  Many patients wish to supplement their treatment with complementary medicine services, such as acupuncture, that can be provided right at the Institute.

Candidates for Valley's Pain Management program include individuals undergoing orthopedic surgery, cardiac procedures, oncology treatments, a hysterectomy and other procedures. Outpatients receiving pain management services include those experiencing degenerative changes from osteoporosis or chronic arthritis, individuals recovering from back surgery, and individuals who have been injured in a motor vehicle accident or other form of trauma.

24/7 coverage for pain management services is available.  Among the fluoroscopic-guided pain management modalities they utilize are:

  • Spinal injections, including epidural and facet joint, of the neck and back
  • Major joint injections
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Complex modalities, such as spinal cord stimulation
Medical Director/Anesthesiologist Robert Silverman, M.D.; Internist/Addiction Medicine Specialist Robin Iversen, M.D., and Psychiatrist Fani Thomson, D.O., are all board-certified in their specialties.  Drs. Silverman and Thomson are also board certified in interventional pain management.  Dr. Iversen is also board certified in palliative and hospice medicine, and she is a medical acupuncturist.

Dr. Silverman and his colleagues also administer nerve conduction studies, EMGs, drug screenings, toxicology tests, and other services.  They participate in the prescription monitoring programs in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.

Inpatient care is provided at The Valley Hospital.  Outpatient services and procedures are provided at the center's state-of-the-art facility in the Robert & Audrey Luckow Pavilion in Paramus, NJ.

All health insurance plans that are accepted by Valley Medical Group are now accepted at the Valley Pain Management Center.

Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  In addition, the center is open one night each week and on Saturday mornings.
