The Integrative Healing Service offers therapies that have been proven by national research studies to be effective in reducing fatigue, anxiety, stress and pain perception, enhancing relaxation, and creating a sense of well being.

Classes

YOGA:
Yoga is a series of gentle and restorative poses, guided relaxation, breathing techniques and basic meditation. Yoga has been shown to produce measurable physiological changes in the mind/body by promoting a sense of well being and relaxation. It has especially been known to reduce anxiety and stress. It can also improve strength and flexibility. Chair classes are available for those who have difficulty standing or using a mat. Classes are held throughout the year. Please call 201-634-5359 to register or for more information.

T’AI CHI CHIH:
T’ai Chi Chih is a series of 20 simple, slow, gentle and continuous movements that build upon strength and improve balance. Its goal is to accumulate, balance and circulate internal energy called “chi” through the meridians (energy pathways) leading to positive physical, mental and spiritual benefits. This practice is appropriate for all ages and offers no limitation regarding one’s physical condition. Classes are held throughout the year.

New courses for beginners start Thursday, November 19, at 9:30 a.m., and Tuesday, November 24, at 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. “Intermediate Classes” will start on Thursday, November 19, at 4:15 p.m., and Tuesday, November 24, at 1 p.m. (meets at 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month). To register for the intermediate class, students must have completed two beginner courses and know the movements. Each course runs for 8 weeks, and the cost is $60 per course. Each class is one hour and fifteen minutes. Registration is required by mail or in-person only and should be done early, as class size is limited. Please call 201-634-5359 for more information.

VISUALIZATION/GUIDED IMAGERY:
Visualization and guided imagery can help tap into inner strengths and other qualities that can empower individuals to cope with life stressors. Participants are lead through the guided imagery and relaxation techniques surrounded by the sounds of soothing music. An individual can learn to relax and work toward reducing, modifying and/or eliminating pain and other symptoms.

STRESS MANAGEMENT CLASSES:
Stress management classes are a series of techniques that significantly help to reduce stress, pain, fatigue and anxiety through relaxation, guided imagery and breathing methods. These methods teach you to choose ways to respond creatively, remain calm and increase your self awareness.

EDUCATIONAL LECTURES:
Free educational lectures and a monthly Wellness Program focuses on timely topics and are regularly held at the Center for patients, family members and the community. The schedule of lectures can be found in our monthly calendar. Most of these sessions are at no cost.

Services

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE:
Massage acts directly on the nervous system to activate the opposite of the “fight or flight” stress response. Massage increases circulation and in turn cleanses the body of waste products that can make you feel fatigued, combats edema, and bathes your cells in the nutrients needed to repair day to day wear and tear. Increased oxygen throughout the body and to the brain, also helps to improve your mental alertness. These factors, combined with the sense of well-being that deep relaxation brings, can increase your energy level, improve sleep and reduce daily stress.

NUTRITION COUNSELING:
Better nutrition means better outcomes. During private sessions with our Registered Dietitian, personalized nutrition plans are developed to meet an individual’s special needs and long term goals. Eating a healthier diet will lower the risk of many diseases and other health problems. Better nutrition improves quality of life.

COUNSELING:
Individual counseling provides a supportive, safe and confidential environment for a client to address present concerns, explore alternative options to better manage life stressors and to develop positive coping skills.

SUPPORT GROUPS:
Support groups help participants face stressful situations, learn from others in similar situations and provide an opportunity to learn about ways to cope and develop inner strength. Weekly support groups are available for patients, family members and caregivers to provide supportive, safe and confidential environmental to share concerns.

ACUPUNCTURE
Centuries ago, the Chinese discovered an energetic field that co-exists with the physical body. Thus, Chinese medicine is based on the theory that every human being possesses a life energy force (called Qi), an energy that pervades every living thing on earth. When our qi is blocked or out of balance or physical our bodies react by producing physical symptoms or disease.

According to ancient Chinese theories, there are pathways (meridians) of life force energy that nourish and support the body’s various organs and systems. When disease occurs, whether through biophysical or emotional circumstances, the body’s energy flow is disrupted or blocked. Acupuncture uses fine needles (always new, always sterile) to energize points on the meridians to restore a balanced flow of energy to all parts of the body to strengthen the body’s own ability to repair and regenerate.

Specific treatment points are determined by the practitioner, based on symptoms or conditions and by physical observation of the patient that my involve taking the pulse, looking at the condition of the eyes, skin or tongue. Treatment points are unique and specific to the individual being treated.

Acupuncture has been refined over centuries of practical use. Even today acupuncture remains a popular treatment that restores harmony to an imbalanced body.
