If you are a college student who has already completed your freshman and sophomore year and are seriously considering a career in medicine, please refer to the following programs that we have available. *Placements are not guaranteed.*
Physician Shadowing (PSP):
A position designed to allow medically-minded students an opportunity to gain exposure and experience in their intended fields of study. Students are selected to shadow a physician in an area of their interest, where they gather a truthful understanding of an operational healthcare environment while identifying the needs of patients and families, assisting as needed. This is a year-round program in which rising junior and senior pre-med college students are selected after careful consideration. To apply, please submit a College Volunteer Application and a copy of your resume.
Physician Assistant (PA) Shadowing:
A position designed to allow students aspiring to explore the role of a physician assistant in a healthcare setting. Students observe clinical procedures in both surgical and non-surgical settings, shadow healthcare professionals, and gain an understanding of patient cases in the respective rotation focuses. This program is available two times during the year: during Winter Break, and throughout the Summer. All applicants must be rising junior and senior pre-PA college students. To apply, please fill out this form and a College Volunteer Application, and submit the most recent copy of your college transcript for consideration. Your application will not be considered unless you meet the school requirement and all forms are handed in together. This is a highly competitive program, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
**If you are interested in shadowing a PA during the Fall or Spring outside of our rotation programs, please indicate that on your regular volunteer application. Positions will be filled based on availability. All the same forms and requirements for the formal program still stand for general PA shadowing applications.**
A position designed to allow students an opportunity to shadow alongside a nurse in their desired specialty, if available. Students will learn about the operation of a healthcare environment and gain an understanding of the needs of patients and families.
EMT Students: If you are looking to complete your 10 required observation hours in our Emergency Department, please contact Kaitlyn Hipshman at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your hours.
