At most hospitals, the da Vinci System is commonly used for prostate surgical procedures. For Saurabh Agarwal, M.D., at The Valley Hospital’s Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery, common wasn’t good enough.
Since 2006, Dr. Agarwal has performed more than 175 surgeries using the da Vinci System, making him one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the area. It was his success with prostate surgery that inspired him to discover new uses for the da Vinci System.
And today, Dr. Agarwal is the only surgeon in the area performing this surgery without cauterization, resulting in better outcomes and quicker recovery times. He became the first surgeon in the area to use it to perform a partial nephrectomy, a highly advanced procedure for the treatment of kidney cancer.
