What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
Experience in the surgical techniques for repairing and replacing heart valves, and minimally invasive valve replacement and repairs. Expertise in improving coronary artery disease through the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) procedure.
Experience in assisting to repairing aneurysms of the entire aorta, including: Aortic root, Ascending aorta, Aortic arch, Descending thoracic aorta, Thoracoabdominal aorta, and Abdominal aorta.
Manage inpatient care for Cardiac Surgery patients, as well as heart failure patients with LVADs.
What techniques or procedures do you use in your practice?
First or second assistant in surgical procedures including: heart valve replacement or repair, Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, aortic dissection and aneurysm repairs (including circulatory arrest and Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair), MAZE procedure, and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation. Special skills include: first assisting with VATs, bedside assist with surgical tying, Cor-Knot deployment, and endoballoon manipulation.
Also competent in Endoscopic Vein Harvesting, surgical exposure, surgical dissections, sternum closure, layer closure of wounds, and percutaneous groin cannulation.
Perform procedures post-opertively including: tracheostomy downsizing and decannulation, removal of central lines, chest tubes, JP drains, and epicardial pacing wires. Perform wound debridement, thoracentesis, and arterial blood gases.
Describe some of your professional highlights.
I worked for two years at Columbia Medical Center/New York Presbyterian, treating and caring for pre- and post-operative Cardiac surgery patients. I then transitioned to the Cardiac Surgery, specifically in the operating room, at Weill Cornell Hospital/New York Presbyterian, where I worked for four years. I have also first assisted in robotic heart surgery, using the DaVinci robot. Robotic cases include: mitral valve repair/replacement, tricuspid valve repair, TECAB, MAZE, and left atrial appendage ligation.
