About Melissa Apriceno
Describe some of your professional highlights.
A proud moment in my professional career was winning the DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses in 2017. I was nominated by a patient who described me as a "very concerned angel and exemplifies what a great nurse should be." I also won the president's scholar award at The Valley Hospital in 2021. I strive to provide excellent patient care. My goal as a provider is to continue to share my compassion in this field with my patients and assist in their treatment toward achieving their healthcare goals.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
My approach to patient care is family-centered and interdisciplinary. I enjoy working with patients and their loved ones to individualize a healthcare plan that makes it possible to achieve their healthcare goals. I have an extensive nursing background which has taught me how to actively listen and I pride myself in having a compassionate bedside manner.
What inspired you to become a healthcare provider?
In my high school we were given the opportunity to intern in a facility we had interest in working in. I interned in a child life program at ahospital and instantly fell in love with the nursing profession. I worked as a bedside cardiothoracic nurse for 7 years before becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse (Family Nurse Practitioner). I went back to school to pursue my advanced degree so that I could have thecapability to care for the patient at a more advanced level. I find myself always wanting to help those in need, becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse gave me the opportunity to do that.
