About Maria Scibetta
What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
As a general internist, I treat anything from the common cold to overseeing some complex medical care. Some of my time is spent with routine well health visits, some is for follow-up of chronic health issues, and some is for acute illnesses. These cover all areas of medicine, from cardiology to gastroenterology, endocrinology, orthopedics, psychiatry, etc.
Describe some of your professional highlights.
As a physician here for over 20 years, some of my highlights are seeing the children of my patients (who are now adults) when I saw their parents as young adults BEFORE having children. It is always gratifying to make specific diagnoses that make people feel better when they are not feeling well. I enjoy spending time with the patients, and learning about their lives, as well as discussing their health issues. I find the area of medicine fascinating. I feel fortunate that I was raised in a family that encouraged me and inspired me to work hard to do something that I enjoy.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
I feel honored to be able to serve the community as a physician. I still find this type of work as interesting as I did before I even entered medical school. I like to think about the patient as a whole, not just as a particular "problem" or "disease."
