Get to Know Me
What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
Respiratory disorders, including asthma, COPD, chronic cough and shortness of breath. Sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, excessive sleepiness and snoring.
Describe some of your professional highlights.
I am board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the specialty of pulmonary medicine. I am also board certified in sleep disorders medicine by both the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and by the American Board of Internal Medicine Subspecialty Board in Sleep Medicine. I am a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Sleep Disorders Association.
I am one of the first physicians in Bergen County to practice sleep medicine and to perform sleep studies. I have been practicing pulmonary and sleep disorders medicine at The Valley Hospital for more than 30 years. I am privileged to serve as the Medical Director of The Center for Sleep Medicine at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for the past 8 years, and have been instrumental in obtaining accreditation and re-accreditation for the sleep center by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The center conducts overnight and daytime studies on patients with a wide spectrum of sleep disorders.
I helped start Valley’s pulmonary rehabilitation program, which focuses on breathing exercises and physical reconditioning. I currently direct the program.
As the director of the Pulmonary Division of the hospital, I led Valley in obtaining a Gold Seal accreditation for the treatment of COPD.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
I take a highly personalized approach with each patient, taking into account the unique medical and personal factors in their health. Often, there are many factors that interact to create a patient's unique set of symptoms.
I strive to offer patients several treatment options so that they can make choices about their care that suit their preferences and lifestyle. I believe it is also important to educate patients about their condition so that they can participate in their own care.
