Get to Know Me
What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
My primary area of practice is surgical oncology: the surgical treatment of cancer. We treat diseases of the upper GI tract, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. As well as skin and soft tissue cancers, including sarcomas, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancers.
We also perform general surgery and treat benign surgical problems, such as gallstone disease, bile duct injuries, pancreatitis, ulcer disease, bowel obstruction, hernias, and appendicitis.
What techniques or procedures do you use in your practice?
I use a number of techniques to approach abdominal operations including the traditional open approach. However, using laparoscopic and state of the art robotic techniques allows us to perform complex surgery through incisions that are less than half an inch in length - resulting in less pain and recovery time to patients.
Describe some of your professional highlights.
For the last 7 years I worked in the department of bariatric surgery at Valley Medical Group at which time I had the opportunity to help patients with their weight loss goals through both surgical and medical intervention. During this time I obtained certification as a certified bariatric nurse and completed my certification as a registered nurse first assistant. For the last few years I have assisted a number of surgeons in the operating room and assisted in cases of many specialties, including bariatrics, oncology, gynecological and general surgery.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
I believe that the best approach to patient care is one that encompasses the patient as an equal participant in their care. Together with the patient, surgeon, and medical specialists we can discuss the most appropriate treatment for the condition, taking into consideration quality of life, risk tolerance, and potential for complications.
