The purpose of the PGY-1 pharmacy residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two pharmacy residency training (PGY-2). As one of the first residency programs in New Jersey, we have been proudly involved in pharmacy residency training since 1972. The Valley Hospital currently offers two (2) PGY-1 positions.
PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program graduates will be competent pharmacist clinicians prepared for patient care positions in acute and ambulatory care settings, clinical preceptor positions, or a specialty residency or fellowship.
Graduate With A Teaching Certificate:
You will participate in the Residency/Fellowship Teaching Certificate Program, which includes precepting your own pharmacy student.
residency program is extremely flexible, permitting individualization of the
schedule based on the interests of the resident.During the clinical rotations, the resident
participates in all aspects of patient medication use therapy including
selection, assessment, monitoring, reconciliation, safety and adherence. The resident will work as part of the
multidisciplinary team advising physicians, nurses and patients on the
appropriate medication use. After
orientation to the pharmacy department, the resident begins a series of
rotations and other longitudinal activities designed to meet the goals and
objectives of the Valley Hospital PGY-1 Residency Program. Residents will be responsible for completing medication use evaluations, adverse drug reaction reports for P&T committee and a comprehensive residency project to be presented at the annual Eastern States Conference.
