Restore Physical Function with a Holistic Approach on Nov. 1 in Mahwah

The Valley Hospital will host a free community health program, A Holistic Approach to Restoring Physical Function, on Wednesday, November 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road, Mahwah.

A holistic approach to rehabilitation can help restore function and maximize a patient’s quality of life following impairment or injury. A holistic approach focuses on treating the whole person by combining all appropriate treatments to promote balance in mind, body and spirit and improve a patient’s overall health.

Patients who have experienced neurological impairment related to stroke, spinal cord injuries or other conditions, as well as those with musculoskeletal impairments including conditions related to cancer and accompanying treatments can benefit from a holistic approach to rehabilitation.

Join Ryan K. Murphy, D.O., FAAPMR, Director, Rehabilitation Services to learn more about the exciting new rehabilitation services offered by Valley Health System.

Dr. Murphy specializes in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (“Physiatry” or PM&R). His clinical expertise is in the evaluation, identification and treatment of impairments in function due to cancer, musculoskeletal or neurological disease. In addition, he is one of the few physiatrists with subspecialty fellowship training in cancer rehabilitation.

Dr. Murphy received his medical degree from University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Murphy completed his residency training at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. His diverse residency training also included instruction at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Baltimore VA Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Medical Center. In addition, he completed fellowship training in cancer rehabilitation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Murphy designed and served as a co-investigator for a clinical trial through the Lapidus Cancer Institute, focused on improving the quality of life in cancer survivors.
