August 27, 2014 -— The Center for Sleep Medicine at The Valley Hospital has added several new features to its nationally accredited (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) center. These additions complete the continuum of care for children and adults in need of sleep disorder testing and treatment.
The Center for Sleep Medicine now offers:
Patient Navigator—The patient navigator guides patients through their experience at the center and offers ways to make treatment compliance successful. For example, the navigator can answer questions about testing, demonstrate the use of at-home equipment and link patients to additional resources.
Remodeled Sleep Study Rooms—Five rooms offer hotel-like accommodations for adults who need overnight sleep studies. Queen-size Sleep Number® beds, La-Z-Boy recliners, TV/DVD players, private bathrooms and more make for a relaxing, restful patient experience.
Pediatric Sleep Study Room—A dedicated sleep study room for children features a nautical theme and many of the same amenities that come with adult sleep study rooms—plus an extra bed for mom or dad to sleep close by. Daytime nap and feeding studies are also offered for infants with specific sleep concerns.
Mask Fitting Desensitization—This service, which helps sleep apnea patients transition to using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device, includes patient education and assistance in finding a well-fitting mask.
Oral Appliance Therapy—Using the SomnoMed MATRx™ system, specialists at the Center for Sleep Medicine can make precise adjustments to oral appliances to determine the proper settings for optimal benefit. The Center for Sleep Medicine is 1 of 3 sleep centers in New Jersey to offer this type of advanced oral appliance therapy for the treatment of sleep apnea.
Home Testing—Patients can now undergo sleep testing in the convenience of their own home, with portable testing units available at The Center for Sleep Medicine. Once returned, the center’s board-certified physicians interpret the data recorded from the unit and send the results to the patient’s referring doctor.
The Center for Sleep Medicine is located at 579 Franklin Turnpike in Ridgewood. For more information about these and other services, call 201-251-3487. (For pediatric patient inquiries, call 201-447-8152.)
New features at the Center for Sleep Medicine include upgraded adult rooms (right) and dedicated pediatric rooms. Both offer a host of amenities for a more comfortable sleep study experience.
