August 7, 2014—Becker’s Hospital Review has named The Valley Hospital to its 2014 edition of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs.” According to Becker’s, organizations on the 2014 list are leading the way in quality patient care, cancer outcomes and research.
Valley is one of only three hospitals in New Jersey chosen for this distinction and joins institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Cleveland Clinic in being honored.
“Earning a spot on this prestigious list reflects Valley’s commitment to providing exceptional cancer care for our patients,” said Robert Korst, M.D., Director of Valley’s Blumenthal Cancer Center. “I am very proud of our entire team for earning this recognition.”
Becker's Hospital Review selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards they have received from a variety of reputable sources. The following awards were considered as part of the criteria for inclusion on the list: U.S. News & World Report cancer rankings, Truven Health Analytics, CareChex cancer care rankings, National Cancer Institute designations, the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditations, American Nurses Credentialing Center designations and awards and Blue Distinction Center recognition from the BlueCross BlueShield Association.
Becker's Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering up-to-date business and legal news and analyses relating to hospitals and health systems.
Designated a Comprehensive Hospital Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons, Valley's Oncology Services at The Blumenthal Cancer Center are guided by a multidisciplinary Cancer Committee. Treatment options for oncology patients include minimally invasive surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapies, radiation oncology, and clinical trials. Valley has earned an impressive six “Gold Seals of Approval” for quality in cancer care from The Joint Commission, more than any other hospital in the country. These distinctions are called Disease-Specific Care Certifications and are given only after a thorough certification process conducted by The Joint Commission. Valley has earned recognition for cancer care in six clinical areas: breast, lung, colon/rectal, prostate, pancreatic and uterine-ovarian cancer.
