Ridgewood Emergency Services First Responders Trained in the Administration of Heroin Antidote

RIDGEWOOD, NJ, July 16, 2014 — Marc Dreier, M.D., Medical Director of The Valley Hospital’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit, recently held a training session for Ridgewood Emergency Services first responders in the administration of intranasal Narcan.  Dr. Dreir was assisted at the training session by Lafe Bush, Director of Emergency Services and Joanne Piccininni, Supervisor of Emergency Services at Valley.

Narcan, or Naloxone, is a temporary antidote for heroin or other opiate drugs that can save the life of an overdose victim by counteracting the effects of the drugs long enough for the victim to be transported to a hospital for medical care.

Dr. Dreier (at left) is shown here instructing Ridgewood Emergency Services Chief Brian Pullman in the administration of intranasal Narcan.
