December 17, 2013 -- The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and The Valley Hospital Foundation are pleased to announce the establishment of the Michael R. Luckow Heart Center, thanks to an extraordinary $5 million gift from the Luckow Family Foundation. The Center is anticipated to open in early 2015.
Michael R. Luckow was the godson and nephew of Wyckoff, NJ, resident Robert Luckow, who, along with his wife Audrey and daughter Stefanie, have been long-time supporters of The Valley Hospital. An Honorary Trustee of The Valley Hospital Foundation, Mr. Luckow served on both the Boards of the Foundation and the Hospital, and from 1999 to 2002, he was the Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The Robert & Audrey Luckow Pavilion that houses the hospital’s cancer center and same-day surgery center in Paramus bears their name. Michael’s father, who is also named Michael Luckow, is a long-time volunteer at Valley.
Sadly, Michael R. Luckow passed away at the age of 44 from a heart attack. “This Center, named in memory of Michael, will ensure that our community has access to state-of-the art cardiac services in one convenient location,” said Robert Luckow. “It is a fitting tribute to a wonderful man taken from us at far too young an age due to heart disease.”
“The ongoing generosity of the Luckow family, and their willingness to play a role in the development of services that will assist the members of our community to lead healthier lives, is remarkable,” said Audrey Meyers, President and CEO of The Valley Hospital and Valley Health System. “We thank them for the impact they and this Center will have on the hundreds of thousands of patients that will be treated at the new Center for years to come.”
The Michael R. Luckow Heart Center will be located at 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, a medical office building that the hospital recently purchased. Valley Medical Group practices currently located at the building include Valley Heart Group, a well-respected Valley Medical Group cardiology practice, and Heart Care for Women, an all-female cardiology medical practice. The practices will be joined by the staff of the hospital’s heart risk assessment and screening program, which will be relocating from the hospital to the building. Together the physicians of the medical practices, the staff of the screening program, and comprehensive heart care imaging services will comprise the outpatient services of the Michael R. Luckow Heart Center to offer the latest in prevention, treatment and diagnosis of heart disease.
“We are fortunate to have the support of the Luckow family who recognize the value of doctors practicing in collaboration to ensure the best possible patient care, said Gerald Sotsky, M.D., Cardiologist, Chair of Cardiac Services for Valley Medical Group, and Director of The Valley Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit.
“This remarkable gift is so meaningful to the Luckows and to all of us at Valley. The creation of the Michael R. Luckow Heart Center is a loving memorial for a young man who left behind a family much too soon. The Luckows waited for the right opportunity to remember Michael R. Luckow, and Bob, Audrey, and Stefanie have found the absolutely appropriate way to do so. We cannot thank them enough,” said Anastasios Kozaitis, President of The Valley Hospital Foundation.
