August 30, 2013 -- Anusak Yiengpruksawan, M.D., a surgical oncologist and Director of The Valley Hospital Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery, recently participated via video teleconference in the Asia-Pacific Advanced Network’s 36th Meeting, held August 19 to 23 at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejon, Korea.
Dr. Yiengpruksawan and Wipa Pothito, M.D., a surgeon from Thailand who is participating in a surgical fellowship at Valley, did a case presentation of a robotic right colon resection to remove a cancerous tumor.
The international multi-institution teleconference included presenters from medical institutions in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, India, Israel, the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Australia and Germany.
Dr. Yiengpruksawan was trained in gastrointestinal cancer surgery under Professor Hiroshi Akiyama, an internationally known esophageal surgeon, at Toranomon Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. He came to the United States in 1984 and completed a residency in surgery at Harlem Hospital Center and a fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to joining the medical staff of The Valley Hospital in 1995, Dr. Yiengpruksawan was Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Endoscopic Ultrasound Lab at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. Dr. Yiengpruksawan specializes in treating cancer of the GI system, liver, pancreas, and soft tissue sarcomas.
