Discover the Benefits of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Feeling tired and overwhelmed by life?
Faced with anxiety and uncertainty?
Dealing with the stress of work, family situations or serious medical condition?

February 27, 2013 -- The Valley Hospital’s Integrative Healing Services invites you to discover the benefits of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction by attending a free orientation session from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Luckow Pavilion, located at One Valley Health Plaza in Paramus.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a unique meditation technique that will enable you to develop a heightened awareness of your body and your emotions, to take charge of your life, and to learn to consciously and systemically work with your own stress, pain, illness and the challenges and demands of everyday life.

Valley’s MBSR program is based on the nationally recognized model developed and pioneered at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Since its inception at the University of Massachusetts in 1980, more than 15,000 participants have found MBSR to be a powerful means for taking charge of their lives and for enabling them to cope more effectively with stressful situations.

The program is taught by Jodie Katz, M.D, a family physician, certified yoga instructor in Structural Yoga™ and registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Dr. Katz completed the practicum in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts, as well as a training seminar with the founder and director of the program. Dr. Katz also serves as a staff physician at Valley Health Medical Group’s Waldwick practice.

The next 8-week program runs from April 24 through June 12, and includes weekly sessions on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., and one full-day Saturday session on June 1 from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. All sessions are held at the Luckow Pavilion. The fee for the program is $600, but may be reduced based on income.

To register for the free orientation session, or for more information about the program, please call the Department of Community Health at 201-291-6090.
