The ability to meet a variety of people, interact with them, and ultimately provide medical care for them are the major components of a satisfying career for David M. Strassberg, M.D., Medical Director of Valley Medical Group in Waldwick. Dr. Strassberg, a board-certified internist, especially enjoys helping patients with chronic illnesses – such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension – to control their disease and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“I also enjoy practicing preventive medicine to help my patients avoid debilitating diseases,” he says.
Valley Medical Group in Waldwick is located at 140 Franklin Turnpike in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center. It is a primary and urgent care practice within Valley Health System, which also includes The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Valley Home Care.
Interested in science and math as a boy, Dr. Strassberg followed his older brother into a medical career. He says he chose to practice internal medicine because “it is what I always considered medicine to be.”
Dr. Strassberg received his medical degree from the State University of New York/Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, N.Y. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn and a fellowship in gastroenterology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in Newark. After completing his fellowship in 1979, he practiced medicine in New York City for 11 years and was associated with several HMOs in New York and New Jersey. He joined Valley Medical Group in Waldwick in 1998.
As a member of Valley Medical Group’s Open Access Committee, Dr. Strassberg has assisted in transforming the seven practices from mostly urgent care centers into comprehensive primary care practices. The practices are implementing a same-day appointment system to cut down on waiting times for patients who were traditionally walk-in patients.
Dr. Strassberg is a member of the American Medical Association and has received the organization’s Physicians Recognition Award eight times. He and his wife have three children, one who is a pediatric orthopedist in Morris County. Visitors to Valley Medical Group in Waldwick can enjoy the results of many of the Strassbergs’ travels all over the world – the office is lined with their photographs of such places as Egypt, France, Kenya, and China.
