For 11 years, Jessie Ariel M. Ferreras, M.D., has been a special physician that his patients at the Valley Medical Group in Waldwick turn to when they need routine primary care, treatment of acute problems, or monitoring of their chronic health conditions. The board-certified family physician and co-medical director of the practice says there is nothing that makes him happier at work than seeing his patients leave with a smile and feeling good about the medical care they just received. "It's very simple," he says when asked what is most satisfying about his career in medicine. "I can practice well-rounded medicine as a family doctor. I can take care of sick people, and for those who are well, I emphasize the benefits of preventive medicine so they can stay healthy. It is gratifying that I can treat patients of all ages and to provide them with all types of care, from pediatrics to internal medicine, gynecology, sports medicine, dermatology, and minor surgery."
Dr. Ferreras received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. He did his internship in Laguna Provincial Hospital, also in the Philippines, and completed his residency in family practice at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J. in 1996. He joined Valley Medical Group in March 1997.
Dr. Ferreras is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association (AMA). He has been honored with an AMA Physicians Recognition Award for 10 straight years.
Dr. Ferreras’ hobbies include biking, fishing, and playing tennis with his two sons: a freshman at Boston College and a freshman at Bergen County Academy. Both are considering going into medicine.
