Critical care or intensive care is a specialized type of care for patients with conditions that are life-threatening or complicated and require constant, intensive monitoring.
The Healthcare Team
Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, who care for both the patients and their families. The Critical Care Interdisciplinary Team includes the critical care intensivist, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, critical care nurse, respiratory therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. Other allied health therapists and technicians, social workers, case managers, palliative care nurses, and clergy may also participate as members of the Critical Care Team.
