How can you volunteer at Valley Home Care and Hospice? Think about your gifts and talents. How much time can you give to volunteering?
*Please Note: Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one year of service, and complete at least 30 hours per year of volunteer time.
Below are departments in which volunteers serve:
Valley Hospice and Palliative Care program offers patients and families volunteer services. These volunteers provide a friendly visit to those who have a life-limiting condition with a prognosis of 6 months or less. These patients are no longer seeking curative treatment for their diagnosis.
Home Care Volunteer
Valley Home Care Volunteers provide homebound and ill patients with a friendly visit. They also provide the family with respite care. These patients are in our community and in need of a special visitor to brighten their day.
Maternal and Child Health Volunteer
MCH Volunteers provide support to mothers and their children in need of a friend. They can assist mother’s of multiples, with various child duties. Volunteers have been asked to change diapers, do feedings, or play with other children in house hold. Must love babies and children!
The Valley Butterflies service is for Children of a life-threatening or progressive life-limiting illness. Patients on the Butterflies program cover both Valley Hospice and Home Care services. Volunteers provide a friendly visitor to patients and respite to their siblings, and parents or guardians. Must love babies and children.
Pet Therapy Volunteer
Pet Therapist are volunteers who visit patients and families with their pups. All our dogs have been trained to visit patients and families at Valley Home Care and Hospice. We only accept dog volunteers at this time.
Bereavement Volunteers provide support to those who have lost a loved one while on our service. These volunteers either visit families at their homes or can co facilities the Social Worker with one of our Valley Bereavement Groups.
- Volunteers knit and crochet blankets for our patients.
- Volunteers who enjoy sewing can create a memories pillow for our families.
- Volunteers can co facilitate groups of children or events provided through our Art Therapy “Pediatric Art Therapy” program.
Volunteers who are not as interested to visit patients or families, but would like to volunteer can do so here at our office. Office Volunteers would assist with mailings, assembling packets given to our patients and families, phone calls, filing and other various office duties.
Community Volunteers are individuals in the Bergen and Passaic counties who would like to donate their time, but not be a registered Valley Volunteer. These volunteers would support our staff with various events, office duties or other ways they would like to offer assistance to us. They can be Boy or Girl Scout Troops, School or Religious organizations.
Junior Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. They provide supportive services to the agency staff regarding a specific event or here at our VHC office. They can also complete various jobs at home. They have the opportunity to participate with our events, collection of supplies, photo albums/scrap booking, and completing other office assistance.
