Volunteers & Auxiliary
Before there was a Valley Hospital, there were volunteers with a vision who worked for decades to bring the hospital to reality. There was also a dedicated band of Auxilians who pledged to support the formation of the hospital in devoted and inspiring ways. The enthusiastic spirit and personal drive of these volunteers and Auxilians formed the groundwork on which Valley was founded. Today’s volunteers and Auxilians continue that pioneering spirit throughout Valley by providing highly personalized, caring attention to each patient and family Valley serves. They are now, as they have been from the beginning, truly the heart of Valley.
About Our Volunteers
Valley Volunteers come from virtually every town in our community and represent a variety of personal and professional backgrounds. Our volunteers typically include new residents, homemakers, career professionals, high school and college students, retirees, couples and former patients. They volunteer to make a contribution to the community, to explore career options, to gain experience and to meet new people. Volunteers play valuable and meaningful roles in the lives of patients throughout Valley Health System. Why not join these community-spirited men and women as part of Valley's healthcare team?
How You Can Help
Daytime, evening and weekend opportunities are available at The Valley Hospital and Valley Home Care. You may donate your time at the bedside, in offices, in community settings, in patients' homes and in other locations. For example, you can:
- Greet and escort patients and visitors
- Bring good cheer and comfort gifts to patients
- Help at a special community event
- Assist patients and staff on a nursing unit
- Visit homebound patients
- Serve customers in Kurth Cottage Gift Shop & Cafe
- Provide data entry/clerical support
This is just a sample of our volunteer assignments. After reviewing your volunteer application and meeting with you personally, we will find an opportunity that matches your skills, interests and availability with Valley’s needs.
Teens, aged 14 and in high school are a vital part of our volunteer team and some of its most enthusiastic members. They perform clerical tasks, deliver flowers and newspapers, transport patients and run errands. They help out at community events such as health fairs for the public. They are the adult volunteers of tomorrow and the dedicated youth of today!
