The Valley Renewal: An Initiative to Provide High-Quality Health Care and Address the Community's Evolving Health Care Needs

Our History

We grew up here. Fifty-five years ago, the not-for-profit Valley Hospital opened in its current location. Today we are recognized as one of the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art, busiest and best-regarded hospitals in New Jersey.

The Valley Hospital is integral to the Ridgewood community. It is from our Village that we draw upon hundreds of doctors, nurses, volunteers, donors and staff to create the Valley family. This is our home, and we treasure our history and relationship with the Village.

High-quality care is our trademark. Time and again, our patients and independent organizations have lauded Valley as one of the best hospitals in the State.

The Renewal

But today, The Valley Hospital faces the question of how to preserve its ability to provide high-quality healthcare services in a time of rapid change. Technological advances, advancements in medical care, and new and now generally accepted standards for healthcare facilities have prompted us to develop a long-range vision for the Valley campus - a plan to carefully replace some of our facilities and modernize our operations over a period of years. We call it The Valley Renewal.

“It's the inevitable cycle of life. If we are to continue to meet the healthcare needs of our community, we must renew our facilities.” Audrey Meyers, President & CEO, The Valley Hospital

Plan for the Future

The Village of Ridgewood has been reviewing and updating its Master Plan - the document that guides the evolution of the community through zoning.

Valley representatives hope to work with Village officials to modernize the current hospital zone. The modernized zone would be similar to many other suburban municipalities and would allow the hospital to renew its campus, establish new facilities, and enhance its programs and services. Working together, we will develop healthcare facilities that meet the needs of the community for years to come.

Modernizing the current hospital zone will allow for appropriate and reasonable renewal of our healthcare facilities.

Next Steps

Once the current hospital zone is modernized, planning can begin for renewal of the campus, which would be a multi-phase, multi-year effort.

Our future looks like this: eventual replacement of two of the three buildings on our campus; fully integrated facilities that meet generally accepted standards for modern healthcare; more green space and landscaping; and expanded underground parking and off-site parking. Today, renewal is a vision. Tomorrow, new facilities will bring a modern community and regional resource for all the communities Valley serves.

Collaboration with the Village of Ridgewood is an integral part of our plan to modernize our hospital facilities.
