Purpose
The Valley Health System Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship Program was established to provide financial assistance to qualified applicants who intend to pursue a nursing program in an educational institution accredited by the National League for Nursing or other qualified accrediting agencies leading to licensure or a degree in nursing.
Eligibility
1. The applicant shall be a resident in the geographical area serviced by Valley Health System and its affiliates.
2. The applicant shall have demonstrated an academic promise to succeed in the nursing program selected.
3. The applicant shall select a college, university or nursing program accredited by the National League of Nursing or other qualified accrediting agencies.
4. The applicant shall have met the requirement for admission to the course of study selected.
5. The applicant shall have demonstrated good citizenship and have participated in community and school activities.
6. The applicant shall have demonstrated financial need and have shown some willingness to help herself/himself.
Procedure
1. Application shall be made in writing on the appropriate form accompanied by all required supporting information. (See Exhibit I)
2. Application form may be secured:
a. Through the High School Guidance Department of the applicant's high school. The application secured through the High School Guidance Department shall be returned to that office.
b. By writing to the Education Department of The Valley Hospital, 15 Essex Road, Paramus, New Jersey 07652. The application form secured through the Education Department of The Valley Hospital shall be returned to that office.
3. Application should be submitted by February l5th for the following fall semester. Award shall be made on or before June lst of the year in which application is made. Alternate scheduling arrangements will be considered in the case of extenuating circumstances.
4. A personal interview shall be required by the Valley Health System with the Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship Committee.
5. The applicant shall be required to file a CSS Financial Aid Profile by February 15th with the College Scholarship Service. The CSS Financial Aid Profile application may be secured by calling the College Scholarship Service at 1-305-829-9793.
The applicant shall name the Ridgewood Student Aid Service, Code 0696, as the scholarship agency on the CSS Financial Aid Profile so that the financial need analysis will be forwarded to the Valley Health System Stringer/Featherstone Nursing Scholarship Committee from the Ridgewood Student Aid Service, otherwise the application will not be processed.
6. The applicant shall be required to provide written confirmation of his/her acceptance for admission and the class being entered from the educational institution selected by the applicant.
7. The applicant shall be required to provide written verification from the educational institution selected by the applicant of complete expenses for the current academic year.
