The Department of Speech-Language Pathology at The Valley Hospital offers a wide variety of diagnostic and treatment services for adults with speech, language, or swallowing disorders. Services are provided by master’s level Speech-Language Pathologists who hold New Jersey Licenses and Certificates of Clinical Competence from The American Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ASHA). Several of Valley’s Speech Pathologists have important specializations in their field, have written articles published in peer-review journals, and have received ASHA’s ACE Award for continuing education.
The staff treats difficulties resulting from stroke, brain injury, or disease. Special x-ray procedures are available for those with swallowing problems, and the department uses computerized technology to help adults speak more effectively. Special services are available for people who stutter or would like to reduce the intensity of an accent.
