Philosophy
The primary goal of the residency program is to provide an organized, directed, post-graduate training opportunity centered on developing competence and confidence, as well as other necessary skills needed for a career in pharmaceutical care.
At The Valley Hospital, emphasis is placed on the development of the resident in hospital practice. The Valley Hospital affords unique opportunities and challenges. It implies cultivation of the ability to work collaboratively with many health care professionals to provide pharmaceutical care.
Residents should exhibit a strong desire to learn, an awareness of importance of hospital pharmacy services, and a desire to interact with patients and other health care professionals. Residents participate directly in all areas of activity in all learning experience assignments. At the completion of the program, the resident is expected to develop a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists are responsible for optimal drug therapy outcomes.
