Lung Cancer Center

A diagnosis of lung cancer is frightening and life-altering. More Americans die from lung cancer than breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer combined. In addition, more women die from lung cancer than breast cancer. Although decades ago most patients with lung cancer did not survive longer than one year, today there are many tests and treatments that are saving the lives of numerous people with lung cancer. We at The Valley Hospital's Daniel & Gloria Blumenthal Cancer Center dedicate our best efforts and medical knowledge to treating you and returning you to a healthy life.

The Valley Hospital aims to reduce lung cancer deaths through a comprehensive program of services that prevent lung cancer, detect it at an early stage, and then treat it with a spectrum of innovative, state-of-the-art methods. Minimally invasive video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and the revolutionary new TomoTherapy radiation therapy system eradicate cancer as gently as possible in many patients. Our clinical and laboratory research strives to develop new treatment strategies and advance the body of scientific knowledge about the disease. We are dedicated to providing patients with all the services they need to fight and conquer lung cancer. Our team of lung cancer specialists includes pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, researchers, nurses, and other specialists who provide the full continuum of lung cancer services.

A multidisciplinary lung cancer management team meets regularly to discuss and review cases, develop individual treatment strategies for patients, and ensure that the comprehensive services available to patients are being offered to them and utilized properly. Data are collected in a lung cancer database that is reviewed at regular intervals to ensure that treatment results meet the highest standards.

One of the best ways to learn more about cancer is to study tissue samples taken from patients with the disease. At Valley's lung cancer tissue bank, lung cancer researchers are performing genomic studies to look for gene expression in cancerous and non-cancerous lung tissue in order to learn what changes occur in the genes that cause a progression into cancer.

A modern, state-of-the-art research laboratory is located in the Blumenthal Cancer Center to facilitate this research. Our physicians believe that a laboratory research program is essential to drive the practice of clinical cancer care into the future.

Many of our services are based at the outpatient Daniel & Gloria Blumenthal Cancer Center, located at Valley's Robert & Audrey Luckow Pavilion in Paramus. To reach us, call 201-634-5538.
