We at The Valley Hospital are committed in our search for the cure. The Oncology Clinical Trials Department is always available to assist our patients, their families, and the community with all of their cancer concerns.

This web site features a sampling of studies that are available at The Valley Hospital. Please feel free to get in touch with our office for these studies or to inquire about any other studies we may have. We are eager to be of service to our community and to move forward in the research field. We here at The Valley Hospital are committed to our patients and to clinical trials. We know that, with your help and our commitment, we may be giving even a larger part of the community the chance for a longer, healthier life. Please join us in our mission.
We participate in studies from different organizations and pharmaceutical companies. A sampling of those organizations we participate with are SWOG, The Southwest Oncology Group; RTOG, The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group; and ACOS-OG, The American College of Surgeons. Below is a brief description of those organizations.
The Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), is the largest adult cancer clinical trials organization in the world. The membership and network has more than 5,000 physicians at 377 institutions in the United States and Canada. The Southwest Oncology Group has been in existence since 1956 and has enrolled more than 150,000 patients in clinical trials. In the last 10 years, SWOG has led to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) issuance of new drug approvals in seven cancer therapies.
The Radiation Therapy Group (RTOG) is also a multi-institutional cooperative organization under the auspices of the American College of Radiology also sponsored by the NCI. It is composed of 250 of the major research institutions in the United States and Canada. There are currently more than 40 active studies that involve radiation therapy alone or radiation therapy combined with surgery and/or chemotherapy.
The American College of Surgeons (ACOS-OG) also provides us with studies. This is a scientific and educational association of surgeons founded in 1913 that seeks to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. Our surgeons must be members to participate in the studies provided by ACOS-OG.
We also have clinical trials sponsored by various pharmaceutical companies. These clinical trials must adhere to the same strict FDA regulations put forth for any trials. The most important regulation is patient safety, first and foremost.
